The Poudre River in Colorado

We are the Poudre River Explorers

The Cache la Poudre River winds its way through northern Colorado, crashing down the rapids of the Poudre Canyon into the plains of Fort Collins and Loveland Colorado.

Almost 200 years ago, when the area was still wild, a group of French trappers was caught in a snow storm along the river. In order to survive, they buried a large amount (a cache) of gunpowder and other supplies along the river. They were able to retrieve their supplies later and that is how the river ended up being called the Cache of Powder (Cache la Poudre).

Our Colors

Our neckerchief colors are grey and light blue.

The grey is the color of the mountains and a reminder of the ashes of penance.

The blue is the color of our Colorado sky and water and a reminder of the Virgin Mary, our protector.
